Creating Community Connections

Canada Day

Martensville Celebrates Canada Day with 7th Annual Event!!

The Community Access Centre proudly hosted their 7th annual Canada Day Celebrations in Martensville on July 1st, 2015 and what a great success!

The morning started off with a Seniors Morning Tea.  Tea, coffee and dainties were offered to local seniors along with several rounds of Bingo. Everyone enjoyed the socializing and a bit of friendly competition. By the time the seniors were leaving, the BBQ and concession were already up and running and happy to provide lunch!

The afternoon kicked off at 1:00 with more than 500 children and adults out for the afternoon of activities and a History of Martensville display. Later, approximately 250 people were served Cake and Ice Cream after singing a resounding rendition of Happy Birthday to Canada.  Finally, over 400 people joined us at the outdoor movie and hundreds more lined the parks and nearby roads to enjoy a spectacular fireworks display!

Families of all ages enjoyed the afternoon of free activities – including face painting, toddler area, bingo, Reading Rainbow, Kindermusik with Johanna,  puzzles and maps, donut-on –a-string, crafts with Kineka Creations, a bouncy castle, obstacle course, giant Jenga and Tic Tac Toe and much more.  Kristee Lynn Adrian also brought out the parachute to keep everyone entertained.  An addition to this year’s event was an Acquired Brain Injury Booth that promoted helmet safety for all ages. The booth included interactive items such as egg helmets, Sports Safety Presentation from U of S Huskies Adam Morrison and Ben Hodson and a football game to follow up the presentation outdoors.  We had the band named Innuendo come out to play at our day’s events.

As people arrived for the evening events and got comfortable in their lawn chairs and blankets, Kristee greeted the moviegoers with Canada flags. Kids were kept entertained with the bouncy castles which stayed up until 9:00 and there was an Xbox dance party in the hall while everyone waited for sundown. The concession was hopping as people loaded up on burgers, hotdogs, popcorn, drinks, cupcakes, haystacks, cotton candy and even glow necklaces. The evening events ramped up with the Martensville Kinsmen & District fireworks spectacular! Thank you to the Kinsmen for generously sponsoring the fireworks show, they really were spectacular to watch this year! As soon as the fireworks ended, Freshair Cinema with their awesome crew, kept the crowd entertained with an Outdoor Movie.  This year’s show once again featured a gorgeous view of the canal, fountain and sunset for a backdrop as everyone waited for the show to begin. Each year the Community Access Centre features a brand new movie that is still in theatres, and this year didn’t disappoint with the feature film “Home”

A very special Thank you to all of our Volunteers who made the festivities a success!  Thank you to everyone who attended the event and for making Canada Day 2015 a great celebration!  Canada Day is sponsored by grants through the City of Martensville and Sask Lotteries, Canadian Heritage, and the support of many local businesses.
