Creating Community Connections

Funding

Financial History

Since 2008 the Centre has been able to access financial support through grants, fundraising events, and personal donations. Basic administration costs were covered for four years through the Community Initiatives Fund, and in 2015 to 2018 the City of Martensville and the Martensville Community Access Centre (now the Martensville Information and Visitor Centre) formed a partnership to provide funding for the Centre. Projects, programs and events have been funded through other grants, local business donations and fundraisers. One of our past projects in particular, the Youth Engagement project, received substantial financial support from the Saskatoon Health Region. Space for the centre, located in the Civic Centre, is provided by the City of Martensville.

Financial History:
The Centre evolved from two grants from the Ministry of Education: an Expression of Interest grant of $7500 in spring 2008 and the Community Literacy Plan grant of $70,000 in fall 2008. The Expression of Interest grant paid for the development of the Martensville Literacy Project which conducted a survey of individuals, businesses and organizations to assess the literacy needs in the community and workplaces of Martensville.

The results of this survey helped us to develop a Community Literacy Plan. This plan, along with the partnering of organizations that made up the Martensville Interagency Committee, secured the Community Literacy Plan grant to continue the Martensville Literacy Project. The grant and space supplied by the City of Martensville helped set up the Martensville Community Access Centre where the project was housed. The Centre went on to be funded through the Community Initiatives Fund, local fundraising efforts, and local sponsorship and grants.
